Carpenter bees are a nuisance because they drill into wood and then defend their homes by dive-bombing people who walk too near. The reason they drill is to create a tunnel, or gallery, in the wood, where they can deposit eggs that grow to maturity. The new adult bees then come back to the same wood to drill out more holes. Over time, they can cause a lot of damage to the exterior of a house. One sign of carpenter bees is yellowish deposits on the side of your house. Another sign is sawdust falling from above. Carpenter bees can infest the underside of a deck, the eaves of a house, and any other wooden surfaces.
